2018 Medicare Advantage and Medigap Plans Available Today
Medicare is a social health insurance product that was created and funded by the federal government and is available to people who are over the age of 65 years old and people who are under 65 years old and receive Social Security benefits due to a disability.
For people who are eligible for Medicare coverage due to aging-in, they have the option between having coverage through Original Medicare (Parts A and B) or enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan. Medicare Advantage is a Medicare insurance product offered by private carriers as opposed to the federal government and it offers the same amount of coverage as Original Medicare with Parts A and B. Oftentimes these plans also offer additional benefits like vision and oral care.
If you’ve just recently aged-into Medicare and do not have Original Medicare yet, you should do so immediately. As soon as that is done, you can switch to a Medicare Advantage plan.
But if you decide you want to stick with Original Medicare coverage, you should consider a Medigap (also called a Medicare Supplement) plan, which are also offered by private carriers. These plans will kick in and provide coverage when the Original Medicare plan does not cover an expense.
It’s important to research your options for both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans, which are both offered by private carriers.
