Medicare Advantage Ohio

Medicare Advantage enrollment in Ohio represented 52% of the total Medicare population here in 2022, according to data compiled by the Kaiser Family Foundation. This is higher than the nationwide figure. Across the country, 45% of all Medicare members now opt for a private plan instead of traditional Medicare.

Private plans are sold by individual companies, which means benefits vary. But federal law requires all Advantage plans to cover at least the same benefits as Original (Parts A and B together). Advantage may also include benefits like prescription drugs, dental and vision services, hearing aids and exams, and more.

In exchange for broader benefits, you may have a premium for Medicare Advantage. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the average premium for Medicare Advantage in Ohio is $16.03 a month in 2023.

You’ll always pay any premiums associated with Original Medicare, even if you have a private plan, but you may or may not have an additional premium depending on your plan.

Everyone in Ohio will have access to at least one Medicare Advantage plan and at least one plan with a $0 premium next year. Insurance carriers selling private Medicare plans in Ohio include UnitedHealthcare/AARP, Humana, Aetna, Anthem (an affiliate of BlueCross BlueShield) and Molina.

There are a total of 216 Medicare Advantage plans in the Buckeye State in 2023, though access to specific plans depends on where you live in the state.
