Within Ohio, certain large insurance carriers cover a majority of Medicare Advantage enrollees. Specifically, 29 percent of enrollees have Humana plans and 23 percent have Anthem. With more than 11.6 million people in 88 counties, Ohio ranks as the seventh most populous state. In fact, Ohio has a larger share – 38 percent – of Medicare Advantage members than most states.
Ohio is home to more than 2.14 million Medicare beneficiaries, including nearly 899,000 Medicare Advantage members. Another 598,792 enrollees with Medicare Advantage in Ohio have policies with Part D prescription drug coverage.
Members can select from multiple: HMOs and HMO-POS plans (allowing in- and out-of-network providers); PPOs; PFFS plans; and Medicare Savings Account (MSA) plans, which combine health coverage with savings accounts. If eligible, Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are available, as well.
There are an estimated 59 carriers for Medicare Advantage in Ohio. Among these are: Buckeye Community Health Plan, Caresource, Medical Mutual of Ohio and Molina Healthcare.
