New Hampshire has only 1.33 million residents living in 10 counties. However, its share of Medicare Advantage enrollees is larger than most states, as 31 percent (20,067 people) of all 264,286 Medicare members have policies. Another 14,996 beneficiaries’ plans include Part D prescription drug coverage. But these MAPD enrollees have more plan options. That’s because on Jan. 1, 2016, Anthem launched new Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans in multiple New Hampshire counties.
In its annual list of top-rated plans for 2017, U.S. News & World Report singled out Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Martin’s Point Generations Advantage policies as the highest rated in New Hampshire. Both received 4.5/5 stars. But overall, United Healthcare is the state’s largest carrier, providing 55 percent of all Medicare advantage members with coverage.
However, for Medicare Advantage in New Hampshire, consumers have access to approximately 42 other carriers. These include: Arcadian Health, Aetna, Health New England and Independent Health Benefits Corporation. Enrollees can select various Medicare Advantage plans, including: HMOs, PPOs and PFFS (Private Fee-for-Service) plans.
