Beyond its fame as a horse-racing destination, Kentucky boasts a population of more than 4.43 million scattered among its 120 counties. For Medicare Advantage in Kentucky, several plan types are available, including: traditional HMOs; HMOs with Point-of-Service (HMO-POS), which permit out-of-network providers; PPOs, PPFS (Private Fee-for-Service) policies; and Medical Saving Accounts (MSAs), blending Medicare Advantage with a savings account. Eligible residents, including those with certain chronic health conditions, may select a Special Need Plan (SNP).
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, in 2018, 664,989 residents enrolled in Original Medicare and 266,487 residents enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.
