Medicare Advantage Idaho

There will be 80 Medicare Advantage plans in Idaho in 2023 according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). A private alternative to Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans are private benefits sold by individual companies.

Benefits vary by plan, but you’ll likely find options with prescription drug coverage, gym memberships, dental and vision coverage and more.

Major carriers for Idaho include UnitedHealthcare/AARP, Humana, Aetna and BlueCross BlueShield. Not every Idahoan will be able to buy the same plans, but 97.8% of Medicare members here will have at least one Medicare Advantage plan available next year.

How much you pay for Advantage depends on where you live. In Idaho, the average premium for Medicare Advantage in 2023 is $20.45 a month, a decrease of about $8 a month over 2022. But most Medicare members in the Gem State will have the option to buy a Medicare Advantage plan with a $0 premium.

If you choose a zero-dollar Advantage plan, you’ll only be responsible for any premiums you’d normally have with Original Medicare (Parts A and B together). Per the CMS, 97% of Medicare members in Idaho have access to a $0 premium plan in 2023.

With better benefits and low premiums, it’s not surprising that enrollment in Medicare Advantage is on the rise nationwide. The same holds true for Idaho. According to an analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation, Medicare Advantage enrollment represented 45% of the Medicare population in the state as of 2022, same as the national average.
